Implants

A dental implant is a lifelike, natural looking replacement for missing teeth. Implants can be used to replace anything from a single tooth to a full arch and can avoid the need for dentures. Sometimes implants can be used with a full denture to help secure it in place more firmly. This well-established treatment has a very high success rate.

We are very fortunate to have Ross on our team. He gained his Certificate in Implant Dentistry from the highly respected Eastman Dental Institute in London. If you would like to know more about implants and if it could be a treatment that would be suitable for you, give us a call. We can arrange a ‘free’ consultation appointment for you with Ross. He will be happy to spend time explaining implant options with you and help you achieve the smile you desire.

What are Dental Implants?

A dental implant is formed from three main components – a titanium rod, an abutment and finally a dental crown. Titanium is the material of choice because it is strong, lightweight and integrates successfully with the natural structure of the jaw.

1. The Crown
This is the visible part of the tooth. Usually one crown is attached to one implant. however if more teeth are needed, it is possible to use two implants and place 3 crowns on top. If all the teeth on the lower jaw need replacing, then as few as four implants may be needed to hold all the replacement teeth in place.

2. The Abutment
This is a post which is used to attach the crown onto the dental implant. When fitted correctly, it cannot be seen once the crown has been placed on it.

3. The Dental Implant
This is a titanium rod which is placed into, and integrates with, the jawbone.
